On Saturday 21st Septemeber Gomersal started their Wheatley Cup campaign away at Dewsbury Moor in the First Round.

A game they was expected to win before a ball was kicked, however Gomersal knew they had to start fast to not let Dewsbury Moor build up any confidence.

Starting fast is exactly what Gomersal did as they were in the lead after 2 minutes with an Adam Simpson goal, lobbing the keeper to finish into the far corner of the goal.

Another disaster for Dewsbury Moor happened on the 10th minute, Cameron Feather in the Gomersal goal, fired the ball long, misjudged by the Dewsbury Moor goalkeeper the ball bounced over his head to give Gomersal a 0-2 lead. It looks like another season where Goalkeeper Cam Feather may have more goals than some of the outfielders!

Gomersal stepped through the gears over the next 10 minutes, Josh Carney scored 2 goals back to back only minutes apart on the 18th and 19th minute. Then Tom Sugden got in on the goals only 3 minutes later! scoring on the 22nd minute to make it 0-5.

Josh Carney completed his Hat-Trick before half time and Tom Sugden added a second for himself to make it 0-7 at half-time.

The second half Gomersal let off the gas but still managed to put the ball in the net, Josh Carney scored a 4th before Ben Smith scored and Adam Simpson added another 2.

Dewsbury Moor did score a consolation goal though on the 74th minute when the Gomersal defence had a lapse in concentration having not had much to do all game.

Gomersal & Cleckheaton progressed to the next round after an 11-1 victory.
