2. Club History

Gomersal Boys JFC was founded by Mr J Dawson and Mr D Rigg in 1977 with just one team of U12 boys based out of The Wheatsheaf in Gomersal. The team was entered in the Spen Valley and District Sunday Football League and played all their home games in Batley.

The 1979/80 season saw the under 14s win the League Cup. By then the club had three age groups 13s, 14s and 15s and were then allocated a home ground on Nibshaw Lane in Gomersal and 40 years later games are still played there.

In 2006 we formed a link with local senior club, Liversedge F.C., who play in the Northern Counties East League. This became the second base for the club and home for the annual 5-a-side competition.

With the support of the West Riding County FA, to which the club is affiliated, we achieved FA Charter Standard Development status in 2006.

Our first Girls Team was formed for the 2006/2007 season and the U6 Tots group was started up to allow children of all ages to join the club.

In 2016 we formed a partnership with a local cricket club, Spen Victoria C.C., allowing us to use their facilities in winter for the mini soccer teams and providing the third base for the club, now our current home.

In 2018, we partnered with Birkenshaw Bludogs as part of the East Bierley Community Sports Association (EBCSA), the ambition being to take on the lease of East Bierley Playing Fields and to develop the facility to include our own 3G facility with changing rooms, quality grass pitches and future community hub.

The 2020/21 season saw another milestone in the club's history as we welcomed 3 open-age teams into the Club. Hunsworth Saturday and Sunday open age sides joined GCFC with Hartshead FC becoming the club's open age 1st team playing in the West Yorkshire Association 1st Division.

Now, approaching the 2024/25 season, we are a club with 38 teams and c450 players. We are working as part of EBCSA to have our new 3G facility live by Q1 2025, we have partnered up with Whitcliffe Academy and Cleckheaton RUFC to utilise the grass facilities behind the Albert Pavilion and close to having a home for GCFC.
